The letter informs residents about the issues related to the application for the site to produce alcohol so that they can have their say in relation to the impacts from that use.

A separate application has just been lodged regarding using the site as a Cellar Door or Hotel.  Once again, residents will be able to have their say about the use of the facility to serve/sell alcohol.

Unfortunately, residents have been upset after seeing and hearing claims that the brewery and the Cellar Door are a "done deal".

Like any development, it needs to go through a due process so that we can get the best, and fairest, outcome for all involved.

Dear Resident

I am writing to alert residents to a development proposal by the Ballistic Beer Company to establish a Craft Brewery, Cold and Ancillary Rooms for the production of craft beers. These would be produced on site in an industrial warehousing complex at 59 McCarthy Road, Salisbury. A proposal to establish a ‘Cellar Door’ as well at the adjoining 55 McCarthy Road, Salisbury has now been withdrawn.

The applicant states the hours of operation of the Brewery would be 7am-5pm Mon – Fri and that there is ‘ample space’ for an articulated vehicle and 18 car parking spaces, although it is unclear where on site these spaces are located and for which of the various on-site complexes they relate.

Following an initial review of the application, Council has asked the applicant to provide more detail concerning Air Quality issues, Noise and its impact, Resident amenity, Fuel Burning or Power Generation details, Parking – number of expected visitors, exactly where on site the parking spaces are located, their number, and all vacant portions/buildings on site and their parking demands, as well as the provision of disabled parking space. These matters plus other elements of the proposal will then be assessed and the applicant informed of the outcome. They have been given 6 months to respond to Council’s request.

Given the proposed hours of operation of the brewery, it is anticipated that traffic, people movement, parking and noise, and perhaps the odour from the brewery may impact on local residents. This Application is Code Assessable so whilst you are able to lodge a submission (objection), you would not have appeal rights in the Planning & Environment Court should a decision be made which you do not support.
