I have had a few enquiries lately about why Moorooka doesn't have a dog off-leash park.

Over the years we have investigated a number of park areas in Moorooka for a suitable dog park site.

The advice I have received from our Parks Officers is that none are suitable due to their relative small size and/or closeness to neighbours. Dog parks generate a lot of use, noise and amenity issues.

I have written to the State Government and Council, requesting the land which runs south of Fegen Drive, along Beaudesert Road to Evans Road (which is road reserve) be converted to parkland.

If this occurs then I believe that part of this area could be suitable for the establishment of a dog park.

I would consult with residents if this was to happen.

So if you are looking for a local dog park try:

Salisbury Recreation Reserve, Evans Rd, Salisbury

Freney St Park, Rocklea

Shaftesbury St Park, Tarragindi

Yeronga Memorial Park, Park Rd, Yeronga

Beryl Roberts Park, Baroda St, Coopers Plains

And remember to keep your dogs on a leash at all times and especially in Toohey Forest to protect our local wildlife.
