I am pleased to announce that both the Moorooka State School and St Pius X Catholic Primary School, Salisbury were successful with their applications for Council’s Active School Travel Program for 2018.

Council Officers will be working with these schools over the coming three years to develop and enhance active and safe travel to and from school for children, parents and teachers.

The Active School Travel (AST) program offers Brisbane primary schools a suite of free resources, tools and incentives to enable students, parents and teachers to leave the car at home and actively travel to school.

It’s all about creating healthier, more active students and parents, greater road safety awareness among students and families, and safer streets and reduced traffic congestion at the school gate.

The award-winning program promotes road safety and sustainable and healthy travel modes such as walking, cycling, scootering, carpooling and public transport.

It is specially tailored to each school with a dedicated officer, passports for each child, rewards and incentives, personalised active travel maps and much more.

Organisation for the coming year is well underway with dates being arranged for the first Active School Travel Committees meeting, school launch and first travel day.

Congratulations to the School Principals, Teachers and Staff for nominating to participate and wishing you every success with your activities in making school attendance safer.
