The Archerfield Speedway has operated in the area since 1978. During this time Council has sought to work with the owners and operators of the Speedway to ensure it operates in accordance with its approval requirements. These are designed to ensure it operates safely and does so with the amenity of both residents and users in mind.
There have been increasing complaints coming from residents concerning noise and odour from the Archerfield Drift Park. These have been forwarded to Council for investigation and the appropriate action taken to fix these issues e.g. ensuring the Archerfield Speedway operates during its defined hours.
I have since learned that the Brisbane City Council is proposing to cease all drifting activities at the Drift Park. I have written to the Lord Mayor seeking a briefing regarding this matter. Rest assured I will advise when this briefing has been received.
I have also been speaking with Drift Park users and they are concerned that they will have nowhere local to go; that it will mean more hooning on our local streets; and that there will be numerous negative effects to people’s livelihoods both mentally and financially, with the potential closure of the Drift Park.
I would encourage you to contact the Lord Mayor to voice your concerns via email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or on 07 3403 4400.
