I am pleased to announce that Brisbane City Council has introduced a Left Turn on Red facility at Durack Street, turning left into Ipswich Road.
This allows motorists to turn left from Durack Street at a red light after stopping and giving way to any vehicle, pedestrian or cyclist.
Traffic and informational signs have been placed at this intersection to inform motorists of the turn and to alert cyclists and pedestrians to the new traffic rules.
You can watch a short instructional video here.
The introduction of Left Turn on Red at this intersection follows a successful trial of five intersections between November 2013 and April 2014. Overwhelming support for these facilities was received from both the wider Brisbane community and locacl residents who used the trial intersections.
The introduction and roll-out of more Left Turn on Red intersections across Brisbane is a small but practical way of decreasing individual travel times and easing congestion.
